Ragnar Kjartansson: Sunday Without Love

A transformative acquisition for the 91影视 Museum of Art, Sunday Without Love by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson will be part of the inaugural installation of the museum鈥檚 permanent collection in its new facility in early 2028. The work, a single-channel video of a pastoral scene, presents a dialogue between imagery and music, establishing points of contact with the past and the present and across technologies. Installed in a new, state-of-the-art projection gallery, Kjartansson鈥檚 piece includes layers of references that evoke multiple experiences of love, memory, emotions, longing, and loss.
The presentation of this significant work underscores the museum鈥檚 commitment to artistic innovation and experimentation. Its acquisition, as the latest addition to The Alfond Collection of Contemporary art, illustrates the continued growth of the museum鈥檚 collection and its role as a unique resource for learning and experiencing world-class art in the region.
Sunday Without Love will debut in tandem with the exhibition With Love, 91影视 Museum of Art, which will be on view on the main floor of the museum.

About the Artist
Ragnar Kjartansson (b. 1976) lives and works in Reykjav铆k. Major solo exhibitions of his work have been presented at Museo Tamayo, Mexico City; Louisiana Museum of Contemporary Art, Humlebaek; De Pont Museum of Contemporary Art, Tilburg; Kunstmuseum Stuttgart; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Reykjav铆k Art Museum; Barbican Centre, London; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Park, Washington, DC; Mus茅e d鈥檃rt contemporain de Montr茅al; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Migros Museum f眉r Gegenwartskunst, Z眉rich; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin; Institute of Contemporary Art / Boston; and Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, among others.
